Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg

OVGU LogoThe Magdeburg Research and Competence Cluster (MRCC) for Very Large Business Applications is part of the Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg (OVGU), a former university of technology which now offers a variety of study programmes, e.g. in economics, business informatics and engineering.

A synergistic research association

The MRCC focuses on the development, utilization and operation of Very Large Business Applications (VLBA) in collaboration with industry partners. The cluster was founded in 2011 as a research association with the Very Large Business Applications Lab (VLBA-Lab), established in 2006, and the SAP University Competence Center (UCC), established in 2001, working together to create synergy through joint collaboration. The VLBA-Lab engages in the design, development, and operation of VLBA systems and system landscapes. The research group focuses on the fundamentals and architecture of VLBAs as well as on their optimization. Specifically, research projects arise from current challenges faced by industry. The UCC provides application and support services. It hosts SAP® systems for educational purposes and manages the operation and technical support of SAP® software solutions. Further to this, the UCC team gives support to teachers and lecturers by offering training and providing teaching material.

The strategic management and hosting of systems for the ESEFA project

With its active involvement in educational projects, the MRCC was an obvious partner for the ESEFA project. The ESEFA strategic project management office is based at the VLBA-Lab, and the UCC hosts and supports the SAP clients used by the ESEFA partner universities. The synergy achieved by exploiting both the VLBA-Lab and the UCC’s competencies perfectly matches the needs of the ESEFA project.
