Addis Ababa University

Addis Ababa University (AAU) in Ethiopia joined the ESEFA programme in March 2015. The ESEFA project partnership is hosted by the IT Doctoral Programme (ITDP), which is a consortium of IT related Departments and Schools at AAU, which include the Department of Computer Science, the School of Information Systems and the School of Electrical & Computer Engineering.  The ITDP is based on the campus of the College of Business and Economics (CBE), Eshetu Chole Building, 6th Floor.

The IT Doctoral Programme has more than 70 PhD students doing their research in six different research Tracks (Information Systems, Software Engineering, Information Retrieval, Language Technology, IP Networking and Wireless Communication Systems).

Each of the Departments and Schools that form the consortium run their own training programmes at both BSc and MSc level.  In addition, these programmes offer general IT courses to undergraduate students in other Departments, for example in the Management, Accounting and Economics Departments of the CBE at AAU.

Addis Ababa University as the premier and the largest University in the country has its graduates working in almost every enterprise sector of the country. This new opportunity for Addis Ababa University as an ESEFA-Partner and member of the SAP University Alliances Programme enables AAU to teach the ESEFA curricula to its current students thereby exposing them to Enterprise Systems Fundamentals and also giving them hands-on experience on a SAP system.  It is believed that this ESEFA training and additional ES research activities will enhance students’ skills to work with Enterprise Systems based solutions using SAP thus making them more employable in the job market.
